In the city panorama viewed from the opposite bank of the Vistula, the silhouette of Toruń’s Church of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist stands out most prominently. It is the main church of the diocese and the oldest building in Toruń, with its walls having begun to be constructed as early as the first half of the 13th century. The church makes a strong impression not only from the outside – its interior features a rich collection of furnishings, including the exceptional Gothic Altar of St. Wolfgang. The cathedral tower also houses a bell weighing more than 7 tonnes, cast over 500 years ago, which can be viewed for most of the year.
