One of the most recognizable buildings in Toruń is the Old Town Hall, located in the city’s main square. This impressive brick building acquired its present form through systematic extensions carried out during the Middle Ages. Built on a square plan, the town hall once served a variety of functions: judicial, administrative, penitentiary, and even commercial.
Today, it is the main seat of the District Museum in Toruń, which houses and presents historical works of art and artefacts from various periods, ranging from the Gothic era to the 20th century.
A distinctive feature of the building is its 40-metre-high tower. Today, the tower serves as a viewing platform and offers what is arguably the best view of Toruń’s Old Town. The climb to the top is not particularly challenging.
