The Rostock Gate (“Rostocker Tor”) is the last remaining gate of the former town fortifications in Ribnitz and one of the oldest preserved town gates in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It was built in the first half of the 15th century, but dates back to a building from the 13th century. The white background to its blind arcatures shines out far into the countryside. The gate has survived many wars, defied numerous attempts to demolish it and has served as a model for several artists, notably Lyonel Feininger.
