Forming an Association in the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald
Forming the association „Europäische Route der Backsteingotik“ (“European Route of Brick Gothic”) on 26. September 2007 was the highlight of the 2-days-conference „Cities and Regions distinguish themselves: The European Route of Brick Gothic – Perspectives for a Common Heritage“. The association’s declared purpose is the promotion and maintenance of brick Gothic as unique art and culture form in northern Europe, the promotion of education and the idea of understanding among nations in a Europe growing together. Founding members are e.g. the Danish Haderslev with its majestic Dome Cathedral, the Salt and Hanseatic City of Lüneburg with its numerous historic gables and the significant medieval town hall, the Hanseatic City of Stralsund or the City of Neukloster within the County of North-West Mecklenburg, surrounded by the charming coast area. This association is the basis to provide a platform to all friends of brick Gothic even after the project’s official end in December 2007. It brings together stakeholders from several branches like tourism, preservation of monuments or urban development. In the tradition of the network, the association will also recruit new partner cities in the future and thus, enlarge the „European Route of Brick Gothic“in its geographic dimensions. With joining the association members do also promote the meaning of brick Gothic as common heritage and thus, as cultural, public and social resource which potentials are ought to develop further. Products of high quality shall raise the international publicity for the brand. The new brochure „Along the European Route of Brick Gothic“ is hot of the presses and invites you for a voyage of discovery to: „Cultural treasures around Øresund“,„Nordic Metropolises“ or „The paths of the Hanseatic League “. It gives suggestions and inspires you to re-discover the cultural variety along the „European Route of Brick Gothic“.
