31.10. 1353 - the Warmia Chapter appointed Jan z Łajs to build and populate the city.
1466 - End of war between Poland and the Teutonic Order, Olsztyn with entire area of Warmia were
           passed to Poland
1516-1521 - Copernicus worked in Olsztyn
1620 - Great fire – destruction of the town
1656 - Olsztyn was occupied by Swedes and next by the Prussians
1772 - the First Partition of Poland, Olsztyn belongs to Prussia
1807 - Napoleon entered the town
1872 - the first train entered Olsztyn – development of the city
1905 - Olsztyn became the Regency (province)
1920 - as a result of the plebiscite Olsztyn remained under German authority
1945 - return of Warmia and Olsztyn to Poland, region’s administrative capital city
1950 - University of  Agriculture was established
1967 - the car tyre production plant was the crucial factor in determining the growth of the city
1999 - University of Warmia and Mazury was created ( 36.000 students)
